Sickness and Watermelon juice

I have managed to contract a sickness from the boyfriend, which he got from a guy he was working with, who got it from his kid. Sharing is caring huh…

So I’m super scratchy throated and runny and sore nosed and TIRED and the last thing I could think of today was an amazing food post for you all, so I’m going to draw on the little backlog of posts that I have from the last two weeks or so that I haven’t yet had a chance to put up (yes, I came with backup).

Back to Gympie for a moment – while we were there I got a few bunches of mint from the area. One day we had some watermelon that needed to go (seriously, it took up about half of our tiny fridge) so I made this yummy juice to enjoy in the sun. I wish I could teleport to this picture, where I was healthy and had a juice in my hand. Ohh those were the days…

The juice barely warrants a recipe with a mere three ingredients, but hey, I’m gonna give ya one anyway.

Watermelon and Mint juice
(makes about 3 cups)

4 cups chopped watermelon
1/2 cup (packed) mint
Juice of one lime

Add all ingredients to a blender and blend. Add some ice if you want it a bit on the chilled side. ENJOY!

  1. So lovely to make your acquaintance through Vegan Mofo, as well as your comment that brought me to your lovely blog space. I often make a vegan Watermelon Curry, but I do like the sound of your drink too. Hope you and your boyfriend feel much better soon.

    1. Thanks shaheen! Lovely to ‘meet’ you too.

Watermelon curry – this is something I’ve only heard of but never had the pleasure of tasting! My boyfriend’s brother’s partner made us an Indonesian lychee curry once though and it was so yummy. I’d love to try watermelon some time though.

    1. I know, it really put a hurdle in my cooking plans! By the time I finish working I just wanna pass out.

Yesss I love all things watermelon, it’s such a good fruit to juice though 🙂

  2. Way to pass on sickness Billy! Hope you’re feeling on top of things again super soon.
ALSO. I’m heading to the sunshine coast at the end of the month to meet the parentals for a few days, any chance you’ll be vaguely in the area? Pretty please?!

    1. I know, talk about rude.

Nooo, we just left the sunshine coast! We’re in Bundaberg now and are hoping to speed things up and get through Queensland and into the Northern Territory by October. We are aiming to try and get back to Melbourne by December so we have to fast track a little! Dammmmittt! What are your parents doing there by the way?

      1. Boo! Bad timing! They go to Coolum in September most years and this year I decided to fly up and join them for about 5 days – they get a 2 bedroom place so it seemed like a good idea! But yay for you heading home around December!

  3. I am so sorry, hope you feel better soon. Those kids are the worst. My daughter brings home all the colds and flues. I am not looking forward to winter.

    1. Thank you 🙂

Oh I know – they are exposed to so many different strains of colds and flues! When I used to work in a kids store doing birthday parties I would get at least a mild cold pretty much every month – it was crazy.

    1. Hehe – it’s kind of like when you’re a kid and you get all the beautiful bright coloured paints and mix them together thinking you’ll get some kind of epic rainbow colour, but it just turns brown. Damn! Oh well, as long as it tasted good 🙂

  4. I’m sorry to hear that, I hope you feel better very soon! My boyfriend always get sick from me, but I never get sick from him. But I always get sick first. I like the idea of putting mint and watermelon together, sounds like a refreshing beverage! Take care! x
